For a brief background, the Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering is a five-year degree program that requires passing the licensure examination to become a full-fledged practitioner. It is concerned with gathering physical data related to the earth’s surface with the use of precision instruments and also paves the way for gaining knowledge and skills not only in surveying but also in mapping work.

Relating on economy, how is Geodetic Engineering becomes a factor when it comes to its development? Its main responsibility is to measure as well as map out the surface of the earth. Conducting surveys to distinguish the boundaries of a property, such as for land titles, deeds, and for other legal documents is also its major work.

Geodetic engineers may discover or somehow know what, or how to build a stronger fundamental of buildings that can stand in shocks or disasters that are happening these days. Geodetic engineers analysis about the impact of the building within the environment that ensures proper location, design and construction that are associated with humans.

Base on the committee on Geodesy it was found that it has the potential to provide enormous economic opportunities and societal benefits to the country, which includes: economic gains from nontraditional uses of the system (e.g., precision agriculture, Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS), reducing the size of flight corridors and the space between aircraft, near-automatic aircraft landings, timely shipping and routing of freight without warehouse storage) in the United States and foreign markets, better support of surveying and mapping communities, and key role in the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), which is a priority of the current administration.

Lastly, when it comes to its job, Geodetic Engineering is highly in demand. But sadly, there are only a small number of graduates of this course. Indeed, taking up geodetic engineering is worth considering. It is one course where big opportunities await its graduates and gear them up in mapping a successful career path.

According to an international website on career surveys, graduates of this course can also expect for great opportunities as employment is forecasted to grow beyond 2014. But even without overseas having to go abroad, graduates of this course also have varied opportunities for practice here in the country.
